The Big Cut ----- 100% Natural!

 There have been some big changes going on over here in my life.  In October of 2010, I decided to go natural.  No more relaxers for me!  Now I still color my hair, I’ll never stop doing that but it’s the end of the creamy crack for me.  I must admit, I’m one of those chicks who hates short hair, so I just opted to just let it grow out and try to camouflage the new growth and the relaxed hair.  I was getting pretty good at it.  I became an expert on flat twists and Bantu knots.  On occasion, I would flat iron my hair straight and I was so proud on how long it was. 

I then noticed that the relaxed hair wouldn’t keep a curl as long as the natural hair would and it often would look like a tangled mess.   I figured I needed to make the big chop and I did! My mom, my aunt and I all went to get our hair did, and wow!  This is 7 months of new growth and I love it.  I found out last night I still can do twists and knots with my hair.  I’ve been getting so many complements on it.  I can’t stop taking pics of myself.

I know eventually I’ll do some braids and weave, but it’s my hair and I can do what I want to it!

Info about Kim K and the engagement…

Ok… I must admit, I got a little down when I found out that Kim Kardashian is engaged to basketball player Kris Humphries.  I thought Kim and I would be single together, or at least I would be taken before her!  I was talking this over with my friend Ashley J. and she gave me the best quote on the situation, “She’s as thirsty as a runner after a 20k.” Well put.

I received a request asking could I write about the engagement and of course the ring.  Here is the 411 on the ring and the engagement.

On May 18^th, Humphries proposed to Kim at her Beverly Hills home by placing rose petals on Kim’s bed and spelling out the words: “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” Of course Humphries was down on bended knee.   The ring is a custom designed, 20.5 carat Lorraine Schwartz diamond stunner. The 16.5-carat emerald cut center stone is flanked by a pair of 2-carat trapezoids. The entire family later celebrated with a private celebration at the family home. All the scenes will be featured on the reality show Keeping Up with The Kardashians next season.

ENGAGED!

Kardashian, 30, and New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries, 26, began dating in December and things became serious quickly.  Kim was making plans to move to New York to be closer to Humphries....

Gwen looks great in pretty much anything she wears but she is stepping out in black in her appearances. Just look on how stunning she looks on two separate occasions.

Returns and Bridesmaids!

Last Saturday was filled with so much fun and good times, I couldn’t just contain it all in one blog.   The first part of my Saturday was the DFW Blogger meet up and the second part was returning clothes and catching a show.  Aunt K and I had to go see Bridesmaid. Kristen Wiig is freakin hilarious.  She is one of the most underrated actresses/ comedians on SNL.  Old Navy was doing the dollar flip flops for people who are card holders and AK went to the store while I was at the blogger event to pick me up some shoes.  She also picked herself up a sweater which they left the security tag on so we had to go back.

I have a problem with Old Navy; I can never go in there and not find something.  We headed towards the sale section and I found some cute t-shirts that had flower embellishment on the shoulder area.  They were thin and light, perfect for Texas weather.  I also found a striped t-shirt that was the cheapest thing of the day and a pair of shorts that I would like to do some kind of embellishment to… I just don’t know what yet.

We went to the Movie Tavern in Bedford to catch a viewing of Bridesmaids.  I can’t go to a regular theater any more to watch a film; I gotta go to a tavern or a grill to watch the movie. I like and adult beverage with my movie (sometimes it makes a suck ass movie better.)  Bridesmaids was freaking comedy all the way around.  From the first five minutes til the end of the movie, I was cracking up laughing.  This movie is like the Hangover for chicks.  It’s one of the great movies that I want to see over and over again and that’s rare for me.  It’s great to see a female comedy that is smart and actually funny and Kristen Wiig wrote the screen play!  The supporting cast is amazing! Melissa McCarthy, from Gilmore Girls, is so comedy in this movie.  I really wasn’t expecting the level of hilarity from her!  Laughs all around and I can’t wait to see it again.  Everyone should go see this movie!

I never pay full price

ok not from friday..

On Friday, I left work with a lot on my mind and I needed to clear my mind.  There are only two things that always help me do that: listening to music and shopping.  Well since this is a pop culture and fashion blog, I went shopping. 

My second favorite word in the word is sale (with my first being free) and the Avenue was having a sale that we needed to check out.  A lot of the times the Avenue is hit or miss with me. This time was looking like a miss.

I found some nice work slacks, which I so much needed.    Everything else I got was purely for fun and entertainment purposes since I wear a uniform to work.  I would like to dye these tights.  Can you do that?

DFW Blogger Meet Up!

You have no idea how excited I was to get a chance to meet other bloggers from the DFW area and get to shop in one of my favorite places, The Body Shop.  In all honesty, I haven’t used many of the Body Shop’s products other than the oils that you burn, the body butter and the perfume.  I can never get enough of the oils because a little goes a long way and a little bottle can last forever.

The event was held at The Body Shop in North Park Mall and the store opened up at 9:30 a.m. just for the group and Chik-Fil-A brought in some tasty breakfast treats so the ladies can have something to munch on while shopping.  With me being fashionably late, I missed a majority of the event.  When I got there, three stations were set up: a station for trying foot products, a station for trying products for hands and a station for makeup and bronzing. The staff at The Body Shop was even nice enough to give us all some goodie bags that contained samples of products and coupons.  After grabbing my gift bag and a cup of coffee, I went straight for the makeup station.  I needed something to make my cheeks pop and the young lady I was working with found the perfect shade to go with my skin tone.  I was happy that she didn’t choose a color that would make me look like a clown.

While sitting in the chair, one of the staff asked had everyone entered the drawing and with me being late and all, I said I didn’t.  I filled out the form and passed it on.   And the winner is… me, lol I won the gift set from the drawing. I was so pumped. I’m pretty sure that was the reason I bought more stuff that I intended to.  I bought the blush, a lip gloss, an eye brush to help smoke my eyes out even more and some oils to burn around the house.

Celeb Break Up News

Leonardo DiCaprio had ended his four year relationship with Israeli model Bar Rafaeli.

"It was amicable, they're still friends and they are still talking," said Page Six’s source. "They just grew apart and went their separate ways. Neither were ready to settle down, and both have busy careers that have been taking them in different directions"

 The couple is notorious for breaking up and getting back together again... is this just another "break" for them?

Sometimes during the week I go have a dinner with friends and I decided to take a few pics.  I’ve worn these pants a few times before but I don’t think I have taken any pics of them.  I got them from a church sale a few weeks ago.  They are a bigger that I normally wear and they feel so good when I wear them.  The shirt… well I wanted to wear something that would cover up any stains from eating hot wings. Lol.  I took this shirt from my aunt because she thought it was too low cut and tight. Well for me it’s not!

Sales! Sales! Sales!

Ok this past weekend, I found some really great sales!  It was Mother’s day weekend, so every store was having a sale.  Our first stop was JC Penney’s.  Our first stop was shoes, which gave me no satisfaction at all so we quickly by passed it for the accessories.  It’s always a guarantee that I will find some little bauble or trinket on sale.  After minutes of searching and fighting to get to the clearance racks, I found a lovely little necklace that was on sale, 80% percent off, for less than five dollars.  Then something sparkly caught my eye, it was a beautiful purple ring with the stretch band. Love it. They had a few of them but they were scratched in one spot and I had to search around for an unscratched one. You already know I found it.  We went upstairs and found tons of clothes on sale but there was only one thing that I fell in love with, the dress with the bow.  It fit perfectly!

After JC Penney’s, we went by this plus size store that is in North East Mall and for the life of me I can’t remember the name of the store, but they have really cute stuff in there.  I think some of it is more for a younger set, but I found some cute things and everything is very affordable.  I tried on some dresses. One was too tight for me and a wee bit short.  The second one I would have to find a tub top type of a bra thing for me to wear.  I did find an asymmetrical shirt with flowers and… it’s just so cute.

Then we went to Lane Bryant and everything in the store was on 40% off! Including the already on sale items! SCORE!  I found two pairs of leggings, a very lovely blouse and a nice floral sweater.  We found some great stuff and gained 50 bucks in real women dollars.

R.I.P Mia Amber Davis

We are sad to report the passing of Plus Size Model/ Actress/ TV Producer and Creative Editor-at-Large for Plus Model Magazine Mia Amber Davis. Mia has been in numerous ads for such clothing lines as Ashley Stewart and for Jill Scott’s Butterfly bra.  Most people know Mia from her role as Rhonda in the film Road Trip.  No statements have been released on the cause of death.

Mia will be missed.
