Garage Sale Friday!

Ok we all know that I love a good deal and there are times you can find great deals outside of a store.  I’ve always loved going to the garage sales and resale shops, you can find the best items there. I blame my mom and my aunt for getting me hooked on the bargain shopping.

The Salvation Army had their yearly garage sale and I always go. The doors didn’t open until 9am but we knew that there was gonna be a line.  I woke up kind of late so we weren’t there at 8am like we were hoping for, but we were there before 8:30 and the line was about 30 people deep.  They let us in at 9am and people were off and running.  Some people just came there and hoarded stuff from everyone else.  This one woman had a shopping cart full of shoes, at least 100 pairs. This was 15 minutes after opening.  Even though there were tons of people attempting to push me out of the way, I held my own.  I’m gonna get mine!

My aunt and I spent about 45 minutes in the warehouse, it was just too much and we had a budget to stay under. My aunt got herself some workout clothes, t-shirts, and some capris.

We then went to a garage sale that was held by some co-workers.  I got some things for my kitchen and this really cool necklace.

Breaking NEWS: The Baby Maker strikes again!

Kevin Federline, best known for making tons of kids, is expecting his fifth child with Victoria Prince.  Let’s go down the baby mama list... First there is Shar Jackson who has two kids with Federline. If you recall, Federline left Jackson while she was pregnant to hook up with Britney Spears.  Federline then married Spears and proceeded to knock her up, twice.   Spears dumped Federline, he got fat and then hooked up with Victoria Prince and here we are with baby number five.

And the new Lois Lane is….

Amy Adams has just landed the role of Lois Lane in the next Superman movie.   Superman: Man of Steel will also star Henry Cavill, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane.  Zack Snyder will direct this latest reboot of the Superman franchise which will be released in December 2012.

BREAKING NEWS: Reese Witherspoon gets married! (AGAIN)

In a ceremony Saturday afternoon, Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth were married at Witherspoon’s ranch in Ojai, California.  Witherspoon walked down the aisle in a Monique Lhuiller gown and had her children, Ava and Deacon, in the wedding party.

Guests included Renee Zellweger, Alyssa Milano and Tobey Maguire among the 120 family and friends who attended the wedding. Witherspoon and Toth have been dating since January 2010.

Thor—May 6th

Ok we all know that I am such an action movie freak.  Last night as I was watching the Jersey Shore, they showed the preview for Thor. OMG.  My life needs to speed up to May 6^th so I can see this awesomeness on the big screen.  A little background on the Thor story… Thor is part of the Avengers. Who else makes up the Avengers? Well Ironman, the Hulk and Captain America to name a few. On a side note, the new Hulk will be played by Academy Award Nominee Mark Ruffalo. Ok, back to Thor… Chris Hemsworth stars as Thor and also stars Academy Award winners Natalie Portman and Anthony Hopkins.  Thor is directed by Kenneth Branagh, yes the British actor.  From the looks of the preview, it’s gonna kick off one hell of a movie season.

Outfit of the Day: I’m the handler.

So this is my first Outfit of the day I have ever done.  I plan on doing it more often so you can get a little bit of a taste of my style and what I like to wear.   I had an opportunity to work on a photo shoot for Fort Worth, Texas magazine. I didn’t do anything big. I was just basically a handler and if they needed anything from the museum that I worked at, I had to get it. I got to hang around and look at pretty clothes and jewelry.  When the issue comes out, I’ll make sure to post pics. The model looked beautiful and it was fun and some great experience for me.

I kept it casual fabulous that day. Normally I wear uniforms to work, so the only way I can express myself is the days I’m not working.

I got these wide leg denim pants from this awesome place called ½ of half that’s here in the metroplex area and in several other spots around the country.  It’s like Ross, but much more stuff.   It’s basically the stuff that didn’t sell in stores like Macy’s, Nordstrom’s, and Old Navy and sold there.  You have to be careful because sometimes the clothes can be damaged. Some items you can buy and repair them yourself but some aren’t worth the time.   They carry everything, from clothes to watches, shoes to bedding. They are always having sales!

Pop Culture Fashionista or Faux Fashionista: Camilla Belle

It seems like lately, all Camilla Belle seems to do is show up at events and just look fabulous.  She is a looking fabulous again at a premiere of Prada to Nada in Los Angeles.  Usually I’m not a fan of showing midriff at an event, but Camilla looks fierce in this Jason Wu ensemble.

Pop Culture Fashionista or Faux Fashionista: Jordin Sparks

OMG! Jordin Sparks has lost some weight.  We here at PCF aren’t sure on how many lbs. she has dropped but she looks fabulous.  I’m just happy she doesn’t have lollypop syndrome (big head, skinny body.)  Jordin is a tall girl, so she would look good at any size.  She hasn’t lost her curves either.

Upcoming Pop Culture Fashionista: Elizabeth Olsen

I know you are wondering, “Who is Elizabeth Olsen?” but take a look at that last name.  She is the younger sister of Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen.  If you don’t know who the Olsen Twins are then you have been hiding under a rock for over 21 years now.  A graduate of NYU Tisch School of the Arts and the Atlantic Theater Company Acting School in NYC, Elizabeth is following in the footsteps of her famous sisters and has started acting.  Like her sisters, Elizabeth started acting at a young age, mostly in her sisters’ movies.   This year Olsen has two movies coming out, Silent House and Martha Marcy May Marlene and two more movies in post-production, Peace, Love & Misunderstanding and Red Lights.

Visit to North Park Mall= Shopping!

Sorry guys that I haven’t blogged as much in the last couple of weeks.  Last week was Spring Break and at my job we were swamped.  Things are back to its regular schedule.

Saturday I took a mini trip to North Park Mall for a late birthday lunch for my aunt and a mini shopping expedition.  If you ever get a chance to go to North Park, be prepared because there are a lot of stores.  We only had a chance to go to only one fourth of the stores there.  There is every store imaginable. One store caught my eye, and that was Lush.  Lush is a store that carries fresh, handmade products.  When we went it, it smelled like heaven.  Lush carries products for skin, hair, and bath, shampoo… pretty much anything.  We asked if we wanted a hand massage. Yes please! The sales person rubbed in some Lemony Flutter and my hands felt so smooth.  Then we tried an exfoliating product on our hands, Ocean Salt. We rubbed it in all over our hands and elbows. Hands were smooth like butter afterwards.

We continued to look around the store and there was sooooo much stuff I wanted to buy.  I was actually planning to buy some bath bombs, but as we headed to the checkout, I saw some products that were for facials.  I found a product called Cupcake which is supposed to calm breakouts and remove excess oil.  It’s made with Rhassoul mud, cocoa butter, peppermint and spearmint.  This is what I needed; I have been having horrible breakouts.  It smells just like chocolate cake, so yummy.

I decided to try Cupcake tonight to have a fresh start to clean skin this week. When I came home, I washed my face with my usual cleanser and put on the Cupcake.  The sales person said this is enough for three applications, but I’m sure you can make it stretch more than that. It has an expiration date and has to be refrigerated but it doesn’t expire until a year from purchase.  I washed it off after having it on for 10 minutes and my skin doesn’t feel tight and dry as it sometimes does after washing.  It’s been a good 20 minutes after washing and my skin still smells like chocolate.  This stuff is amazing.  The product comes in a black container and if you bring back five pots, you will get a fresh facial mask for free.

Seann William Scott Enters Rehab

Seann William Scott, famous for playing Stiffler in the American Pie movies, has checked himself into rehab.  Scott checked himself in as a proactive measure to help with health and personal issues. Scott's rep states that "He appreciates the support of his many fans at this time."

My Natural Hair Care Journey

Hi... my name is lalaG and I am addicted to the creamy crack.  Creamy Crack?  For those who are not hip to the term, creamy crack is relaxers. I have been relaxing my hair since middle school. Every six weeks, I would subject myself to what I realize now is hell on earth by putting chemicals on my head.  For a while now I said I would never stop relaxing my hair. I loved the straightness that would come after putting on the relaxer and loving all the things I thought I could do with my hair.

Then in October of 2010, I had my last relaxer. I honestly cannot tell you why I just stopped. Maybe it was I was just tired of every six weeks of buying a relaxer and putting on or getting tired of the burns on my scalp when I scratched my scalp before relaxing.  Maybe I’m just lazy and found it easier to just wash and let air dry and go.

At first I was doing just the wash and go, but I get bored really quickly with one hairstyle and I almost fell off the wagon and thought about relaxing again, but that all changed. I started doing a little research on the internet about natural hair style and transition videos. I pretty much already knew that I didn’t want dreads; it’s just not something for me and to each his own.  I have spent weeks and weeks practicing on what to do with my hair.  Yes sometimes I still crave the straightness that a relaxer would give me, but I just bust out the Chi flatiron and I get almost the same effect.  What’s different is that my hair is thicker and has more body with the straightness.

I have been considering doing the big snip since I have several months of new growth  but many have rejected this idea (men mostly) and I know I will become bored with a short style and will crave the length again.  I can still do pretty much as I did before, straight styles, flips, extensions, pony tails, whatever id like, the only thing that has changed is the chemical processing.  There is one thing that will never change, my love for hair color. I could never stop that.

The Return of the SUPERMODEL

Can you name 5 supermodels that are currently walking the runways this season? Most fashionistas can’t. The days of the Christy, Cindy, Linda, Naomi, and Kate are gone, but on occasion they pop up and show these ladies how it’s done.  Supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell walked the runway for Louis Vuitton during Paris fashion week.  The British supermodels did the show as a favor for Marc Jacobs. Campbell still occasionally walks the runways and for Moss, this is her third runway show since going into “retirement” in 2004.

Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel call it quits

Say it aint so! JT and Jessica Biel end their four year relationship.  Rumors started to swirl in 2007 about their relationship and they have on and off since then.  The split was amicable.

Julianne Moore to play Sarah Palin

We here at Pop Culture Fashionista have a slight girl crush on the lovely Julianne Moore.  We admire her beauty, her accomplishments, and for her choices in films.  Moore has been cast as former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin in HBO’s film Game Change.  The film will follow the John McCain presidential run, from his choosing of Palin for his running mate, to his defeat in the 2008 election. The film will be directed by Jay Roach who is known for directing the Austin Powers movies, Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers.  The move will be based on the novel of the same name by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin and the script will be written by Danny Strong. No word on any others cast in the film.

Its official! Charlie Sheen…

Its official, Charlie Sheen has been fired from the show Two and a Half Men.  In a letter from the legal staff from Warner Bros. sent to Sheen’s lawyer stated that Charlie should,  "focus your energies on what no one so far has been able to do: get your client the sustained, rigorous and effective treatment he so urgently needs. It is clear that [Sheen] has no intention of agreeing to the intensive evaluation and treatment that his condition require. It is also clear he does not believe he has a problem and that he will continue to conduct himself in a destructive manner."

Of course Sheen’s lawyer, Marty Singer, said that there will be a lawsuit.

Let’s not forget that even when Sheen was arrested for felony and misdemeanor charges in the last couple of months, Warner Bros. extended Sheen’s contract and said they would support him and now….

What’s gonna happen next in the world of Charlie Sheen? I’ll be watching!

Motives Cosmetic and Skin Care Demo.

Anytime that comes up where you get a chance to get a custom blend foundation, you should take it.  This weekend I got a chance to work with the ladies of Motives by Loren Ridinger to help me find a foundation perfect for my skin. Nadine Cottrell and associates set up Danette’s Urban Oasis to do a cosmetic and skin care demo. 

First the ladies ask questions about your skin type and if you have any issues concerning your skin. Next color swatches are done on your skin to find the closest color match. Other colors are added to get the perfect color match for you. They also add certain things like sunscreen or oil control to help fix your skin’s needs. The demo ends with the foundation application on your face.

 Along the way to finishing the demo, the ladies give you tips on everything from makeup application to what kind of products you can use for your acne issues. Once the foundation was put on my skin, it felt lightweight and didn’t melt off my normally oily skin.  The foundation covered a majority of my facial issues and I forgot that I had it on. The fee for the demo was five dollars and you get a sample of your blended foundation.

Christina Aguilera arrested for public intoxication!

Oh Christina dear, what’s going on with you?  Are you drinking the same Kool- Aid as Charlie Sheen?  Pop star Christina Aguilera was arrested for public intoxication this morning in West Hollywood and her boyfriend of the moment, Matt Rutler, was arrested for DUI.  Aguilera will not be prosecuted for the crime. Rutler has been released also.
